Five Pages from Around an Old Homestead

Around an Old Homestead: A Book of Memories by Paul Griswold Huston was published in 1906 by Jennings and Graham of Cincinnati and Eaton and Mains of New York. The homestead was that of his paternal grandparents, Paul C. and Esther (Phillips) Huston. The book is no longer under copyright.

Paul Griswold Huston (1873-1960) was a first cousin of Simeon Arthur Huston making him my first cousin, twice removed. His father was Alexander Botkin Huston (1829-1915), a lawyer and later a judge; his mother was Alice Mindwell Griswold (1845-????). He graduated from what is now Princeton University in 1895 and took post-graduate courses at both Princeton and the University of Chicago. He worked for the USDA Forest Service (then the Bureau of Forestry) before turning to literature. In 1905 he was an instructor on English literature at Oberlin College giving courses in composition and the history of English literature. He is also the author of An Old Fashioned Sugar Camp and Other Dreams of the Woods.
